Bourgeneuf
The pretty town of Bourgeneuf is approximately 15 minutes away. It lies on a hill at the meeting of three valleys. The Tour de Zizim (so called because of a legend that the brother of a Turkish sultan was imprisoned here), a relic of an ancient castle, is notable for its three story structure of oak beams; there is a fine view from the top. The Town Hall contains late 18th C. Aubusson tapestries.
In the town centre you will find the beautiful 15th century church of St. Jean with its ornate painted arches inside, lovely stained glass windows, and a 19th century organ which has been lovingly restored using the original pipes.
The Musee de l 'Electrification celebrates and displays a social and economic insight into the history of producing electricity, Bourgeneuf being the third town in France to receive modern day electricity.
